Incalmo "Low Bowl" w/ 9 Sections

This incalmo "low bowl" is made from 9 separate sections of deep pink and gold topaz. Incalmo is an extremely complex technique where each section is made separately and then they are joined one at a time while the glass is still hot.

Incalmo is a technique whereby two bubbles are blown, then cut and fused along their rims before final shaping, and this particular bowl has nine separate sections meaning it required nine separate bubbles! Incalmo possibly refers to the calmness required to perform such a tricky operation.

*Note that the white spots on the glass are reflections from the photo lights.
